UK December Update

 

ADMISSION AND SCHOLARSHIP UPDATES Students who missed UK’s Early Action deadline are still able to apply for admission. Our Regular Decision deadline for admission is February 15, 2024. Academic scholarship offers are sent out on a rolling basis, based on a student’s admission date.   Competitive scholarship decisions are expected to be released by early March.    Lewis Honors College decisions will be released in mid-February.   ADDITIONAL REMINDERS Selective Programs   While we have general admission criteria at UK, students are also evaluated on the admission criteria for their first and second choice major. If they are admissible to UK, but not eligible for their first choice major, we will admit to their second choice major or an exploratory academic program. If students have questions about our academic program requirements or their eligibility for specific majors, they can reach out to us at recruitment@uky.edu.    Seventh semester transcripts   Students who apply to UK will receive one of three admission notifications: 1) admit, 2) deny or 3) defer. Students in a deferral status are encouraged to take steps to strengthen their application materials during their senior year in advance of them receiving a final decision from UK. The most impactful materials are seventh semester transcripts and new ACT/SAT scores.   FAFSA  We encourage seniors to fill out the FAFSA form as soon as it’s available so we can consider them for financial aid – fafsa.gov. The new FAFSA is expected to be released at the end of December 2023.  UK INVESTS   At the University of Kentucky, we're not only investing in our students' education, but also in their financial future. Through our innovative program, UK Invests, we're empowering students to understand and manage money. Students have the opportunity to earn up to $250 per semester through the completion of various activities designed to instill lifelong habits. These activities range from regular gym visits to participation in study groups or engaging in mock interviews. In partnership with Fidelity Investments, students can open a no-fee brokerage account and invest their incentive earnings. That way, they don’t have to wait to begin investing — because we’re giving them a head start on building a financial nest egg that can continue to grow even after they graduate. But it's not only about investing money. We're committed to teaching students the essential aspects of financial literacy. From understanding the power of compounding interest and the importance of budgeting to early retirement planning, we're equipping our students with knowledge that will last a lifetime. We're taking these steps because we understand the desire of young people to take control of their future, and that starts with financial independence. They can take a campus tour, explore an academic program, visit a UK resource fair and much more! We are offering spring open house dates in January, February and May.   Admitted Student Days These events offer an opportunity to learn about next steps to joining the UK community, including information on housing, financial aid and orientation. Students will also have the chance to connect with current and future Wildcats.  Registration for spring events will open soon.
