UK March Updates

University of Kentucky
What's New With Big Blue
Hello counselors and greetings from the University of Kentucky!

There are likely two big things on your mind right now for your seniors – college decision deadlines and the FAFSA! As a reminder, UK’s confirmation deadline is May 1, 2024, and our final Wildcat Living housing deadline is June 1, 2024.

Please be aware that the current national delay in financial aid offers through the FAFSA may impact the May 1 deadline. While the deadline is subject to change, please be assured that the university will work with students affected by delayed financial aid offers to ensure a smooth process.

Last month, we released admission decisions from the UK Lewis Honors College and awarded our competitive scholarships. In ordinary times, our next big notification to students would be sending financial aid notifications. Last year these were available in early March. We do not have an ironclad estimate of when financial aid will be awarded. Our team will work hard to be as expeditious as possible. We will continue to send updates in the coming weeks as we send out financial aid notifications and approach the confirmation deadline.

Dual Credit Transfer Advisor

Tell us about your role at UK.
I am a transfer advisor and transfer equivalency specialist here at UK. My focus is on answering any equivalency and/or degree applicability questions regarding dual credit (questions like - will this count toward my core requirements or what dual enrollment credits of mine will transfer to UK?).

What do you wish more people knew about UK?
I think some people might feel like our campus is too big (I had my hesitations before I committed to UK for my bachelor’s degree), but I feel like it gives students so many opportunities to find the people, clubs, organizations, etc., that they can connect with the most.

What do you wish students/parents/counselors knew about taking dual credit classes?
Dual credit is a fantastic opportunity for students to get ahead in their intended degrees programs, but it’s also a wonderful way for them to discover what subject areas interest them the most so that they can make a more informed decision about the path they’d like to pursue in the future.

What resources are you proud that UK offers to students?
I’m pretty proud of my department’s Transfer Credit Tool! This tool will allow you to input all the transfer work you have completed and run audits for any program you are interested in pursuing at UK. If there is transfer work you are not seeing in our database or if you have any questions, you can always shoot us an email at uktransfer@uky.edu.

What advice would you give to students pursuing dual credit in high school?
Focus on completing your core (general education) requirements. You may not know now if you want to pursue engineering, business or something else, and that’s okay! However, you can make a dent in your core requirements, regardless of the degree program you end up choosing.
