What's New With Big Blue
Hello counselors and greetings from the University of Kentucky!

By the time you receive this message, the University of Kentucky will have completed its 2023-24 academic year. As we head toward the summer months, we have so much to look forward to – Big Blue Nation Orientations, summer semester classes, summer camps and more. We also are honored to host the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts students on our campus.

We're excited to welcome our newest Wildcats to campus this fall. We will be sending important updates to our students over the summer, so please encourage them to check their email.

It also would be helpful to remind your students who will be attending UK this fall that the confirmation change did not affect our UK Campus Housing deadlines. Students who have applied to live on our campus will receive email updates from our Wildcat Living team beginning in late May. Room selection is prioritized by the date the student completed their housing application. Students and families can visit wildcatliving.uky.edu for more information. Additionally, they can email ukhousing@uky.edu

TRANSCRIPTS
Seniors who have chosen to attend the University of Kentucky must send a copy of their final high school transcript with posted graduation date and a college transcript for any institutions from which they have earned credits. Students are encouraged, when possible, to request these transcripts as early as possible to ensure accurate academic advising at Big Blue Nation Orientation this summer.

FINANCIAL AID
UK has been receiving students' FAFSA information and preparing financial aid notifications for the past several week. Once UK has packaged a student’s aid, the student will receive an email with their detailed FAN (to both their UKY and FAFSA-filling email addresses). Financial aid notifications are being sent in batches. As a result, not all packages will be sent at the same time.

Students and their families can set up an appointment with a financial aid counselor here for help with their FAFSA or have questions about their financial aid notification.

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS
High school students, especially sophomores and juniors, are encouraged to schedule a visit to our campus! An upcoming Big Blue Open House event will provide students with an opportunity to customize a full day on campus based on their interests. Registration is available here for July 19. If students are unavailable to visit on that date, we are open every weekday all summer long for tours!
WHO'S WHO AT UK
Meet McKaylee Copher

McKaylee Copher is a proud UK alum, receiving her undergraduate degree from the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and her master’s from the College of Public Health. As a student at UK, she spent time participating in undergraduate research, Fraternity and Sorority Life and was an Alumni Ambassador. McKaylee now serves as UK’s Director of Orientation and Outreach, where she oversees new student orientations, welcoming students to UK and helping in their transition to joining the Wildcat Family.

What is your favorite on-campus event?
Of course, I love Big Blue Nation Orientations, where students connect with other incoming students, learn about all the resources UK has to offer and register for their upcoming classes alongside their academic college. I am also a big supporter of DanceBlue, UK’s 24-hour dance marathon that raises money for the DanceBlue Hematology/Oncology Clinic at Kentucky Children’s Hospital. It is an extraordinary 24 hours that sees the campus and surrounding community come together to fight until the battle against pediatric cancer is won.

What is the best way for a student to show off their Wildcat spirit?
UK sporting events! I encourage students to go to all the sporting events, not just football and basketball - soccer, volleyball, gymnastics and baseball are great environments full of school spirit and great student sections!

What has been the most memorable moment of your time at UK so far?
My experiences abroad are some of my fondest memories of college, and there are so many ways to go abroad through UK. Students can take classes, complete research, teach, participate in service and much more! As an undergraduate student, I traveled across Europe as part of a course studying the anthropology of tourism and participated in service in Central America through Alternative Service Breaks.

What advice would you give to incoming students to make the most out of their time here?
Get involved and be open to new opportunities! If you hear about a club or event that interests you, go participate and learn more about it. Especially take advantage of all the opportunities during K Week. Everyone is new to campus and hoping to meet new people, and it is a wonderful time to try something new.
