🐎 Major Spotlight: Equine Science and Management

Where better to study horses than the Horse Capital of the World?!? Our Equine Science and Management bachelor’s degree is one of the few of its kind at a land-grant university, offering students a chance to learn and lead in the heart of Kentucky’s equine industry.

Three unique emphasis areas help students shape their path:
  • Equine Science: Explore the scientific foundations of equine physiology, nutrition, reproduction and genetics.
  • Equine Management and Industry: Develop skills in marketing, operations and equine business management.
  • Communications, Leadership Education: Prepare for leadership roles in the equine field through coursework in community dynamics, leadership development and agricultural communication.
Students gain real-world experience through:
✅ Internships with leading equine businesses and organizations.
✅ World-class research in areas such as equine health, nutrition, economics and communication.
✅ Opportunities to apply their knowledge on a global stage by way of education abroad, further enriching their understanding of the equine industry.

Individualized advising, peer mentorship and career and professionalism enrichment activities are in place from the beginning to support our students throughout their academic pathways.

Our facilities set the standard in equine education. Students intersect with one of the world’s leading equine research facilities, the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center, as well as a dedicated teaching farm, Maine Chance, which maintains about 100 horses in Lexington, Ky. Additionally, the UK Agricultural Campus is undergoing significant capital projects to strengthen our educational programs and develop a more skilled, talented workforce for Kentucky and beyond.

🎯 Involvement with Intentionality
Extracurricular organizations range from competition teams in dressage, equestrian (hunt seat and western), eventing, polo, rodeo and saddle seat to affinity clubs in horse racing.

Counselors and educators, if your students are passionate about horses and aspire to shape this industry’s future, a top-notch, world-class Equine Science and Management degree awaits them at UK. To learn more, click here.
