University of Kentucky What's New With Big Blue

High School Seniors: The Final Countdown

Confirmation Deadline: May 1

The finish line is in sight! Seniors planning to attend the University of Kentucky Fall 2026 must confirm their enrollment by registering for Big Blue Nation Orientation by May 1, 2026. This is also the deadline to accept financial aid and scholarship offers. Prospective students can schedule an appointment with one of UK's financial aid counselors here.

Students with any final questions about confirming their enrollment are encouraged to schedule an appointment with their UK recruiter. Recruiter contact information is available
here. Students confirming by May 1 will have until June 1 to submit their UK Campus Housing application but encouraging them to submit those as early as possible is always important to have the best options!

Final Transcripts Matter

To ensure a smooth transition to UK, students should send:

  • Their final high school transcript complete with graduation date
  • Any college transcripts for dual credit or prior coursework

Submitting these early helps us provide accurate advising during their BBN Orientation. This sets them up for greater success starting day one.

Stay Connected

Encourage your seniors to keep a close eye on their email during the summer months! We will share important updates through our Countdown to Kentucky newsletter series about:

  • BBN Orientation
  • Room selection and move-in
  • Transportation Services (parking pass and other information)
  • Athletic tickets
  • K Week! (our welcome week)
  • And so much more!

Underclassmen: Time to Explore

For sophomores and juniors, this is their time to start imagining their future! Encourage them to visit campus. The UK Visitor Center is open all summer long, Monday through Friday. There’s nothing like stepping onto campus to picture what’s possible.

Looking Ahead: Fall 2027 Applicants

  • Fall 2027 Application opens August 1, 2026
  • Early Action Deadline is December 1, 2026

Applying early is key to being considered for:

  • Academic Scholarships
  • Competitive Scholarships
  • Lewis Honors College

Reminder: Students who earn college credit before high school graduation are still considered first-time, first-year students.

From Day One: A Student‑Centered Approach to Success

At the University of Kentucky, student success starts early and is supported throughout the college experience. Guided by a students‑first philosophy, UK aligns academic and student success resources to help students transition to college and stay on track toward their goals.

Proactive, Connected Support

UK takes a coordinated approach to student support, focused on early awareness and timely connection to resources. Campus partners work together throughout the year to identify challenges and respond thoughtfully.

What this looks like in practice:

  • Ongoing collaboration across academic and student support teams
  • Targeted outreach to connect students with relevant information and services
  • Individualized referrals based on student needs

First‑Year Focus Areas

UK’s first‑year experience centers on four areas research shows to support persistence and completion:

  • Belonging and connection
  • Academic engagement
  • Wellbeing
  • Financial awareness and stability

UK has made steady gains in student retention and graduation rates, reflecting an ongoing focus on engagement and institutional effectiveness. Regular assessment helps strengthen practices, address gaps and enhance the support structures available to students.

Our commitment

As a public, land‑grant institution, UK is committed to preparing students for lives of meaning and purpose. Through rigorous academics, experiential learning and co‑curricular opportunities, students build the knowledge, skills and adaptability needed for workforce readiness and long‑term impact.

Our partnership

We value our partnership with high school counselors. Your guidance helps students evaluate their options, reflect on their goals and choose a community that supports both who they are and who they want to become.

Major Spotlight: Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology (AMBT)

Here, curiosity meets cutting-edge science.

The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment's AMBT program is designed for students ready to tackle big questions in:

  • Human and animal health
  • Agricultural innovation
  • Environmental sustainability

Students build a strong foundation in chemistry, biology and genetics, then take those skills beyond the classroom through hands-on research and faculty mentorship.

Real Experience, Real Impact

AMBT students don’t just learn science; they do science. Through independent research projects and close collaboration with faculty, they gain the kind of experience that opens doors to careers such as:

  • Research scientists
  • Geneticists
  • Biotechnologists
  • Health care professionals

Or they continue to advanced programs like medicine or veterinary medicine. To learn more about Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology, click here.

Fast-Track Your Future

Highly motivated students can take advantage of the Accelerated Master’s Pathways (AMP) program, earning up to 12 hours of graduate credit while still an undergraduate.

This means:

  • Less time
  • Lower costs
  • A head start on advanced degrees in fields like Medical Science, Plant and Soil Sciences and Veterinary Science
